Happy 150th Norwood!

Throughout the year, Norwood residents will be celebrating the Norwood’s 150th Anniversary. The anticipation of this 12-month celebration has been building for well over a year and 2022 is the time for all to embrace the founding of this wonderful Town. Sincere thanks to the many volunteers who have devoted so much of their time to create 12 months of commemorating Norwood together as a community.
Norwood Local Town Pages will publish a monthly series throughout the year to inform residents of the various events taking place throughout town. There is a wide variety of experiences for every age group and interests for all to enjoy!
The celebration kicked off on First Night (Dec. 31), on the Norwood Town Common. 


Sunday, March 6
Commemoration of 150th Anniversary
The Norwood Historical Society commemorates the 150th anniversary of the creation of this wonderful town named Norwood. The event will be held virtually through Norwood Community Media, 1-5 p.m.
It was In 1872 when the citizens of South Dedham voted to secede and form the town of Norwood. The ratification was on March 6 where a celebratory event was held. 
 Prior to a formal gathering with elected officials of the Commonwealth at Village Hall, Lewis and Anna (Smith) Day welcomed Norwood residents and guests to a reception in their home at 93 Day St. A recreation of the festive event will be hosted by the Norwood Historical Society sans Governor Washburn and Senator Wakefield. Stay tuned to the Norwood Historical website (norwoodhistoricalsociety.org) and social media channels for announcements and changes.

Second Annual Community Dodgeball Tournament
Impact Norwood and Norwood Recreation Department have teamed up for the 2nd Annual Community Dodgeball Tournament, 5-7 p.m. This event is for youths in grades 6 through 12 with one or two adults assigned to help. Teams of 5 will compete for the title of CHAMPIONS! Participants can register as an individual or as a group of 5. Gift cards for winning teams, The focus of adults assisting is to help with Impact Norwood’s larger mission to encourage healthy relationships between adults and youths.

Tuesday, March 15
Norwood Historical Society Book Group
The Norwood Historical Society Book Group will be hosting a discussion through their Town History Book Group.  on ‘Mapping Norwood, An Irish American memoir,’ by C. Fanning. The book chronicles the lives of Norwood citizens from the 1920’s to the 1960’s. These family stories will illustrate Norwood’s Irish community and parallels the author’s experiences and his study of Irish literature and history.
The event will be held at the F. Holland Day House, 93 Day St., 7-8:30 p.m.
