For runners, the Norwood Firecracker 5K is more than just the kickoff to the town’s infamous 4th of July celebration—it’s an annual athletic tradition eagerly anticipated by locals and visitors alike. Just before the streets come alive with floats, marching bands, and community groups, runners take center stage on a flat and fast out-and-back course lined with thousands of cheering spectators.

The race starts at 5 p.m. sharp from Norwood’s scenic Town Common, setting the tone for a communal salute to America. This 3.1-mile course is designed to be competitive and efficient; participants should be prepared to maintain a timely pace, as prolonged stopping is not permitted except in cases of emergency.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers, with medals for the top three finishers in each age group. The first 100 registered runners will receive commemorative event t-shirts.
