Festive Boasting Rights Up for Grabs!
Ready, Set, Decorate!
By Michele Taranto
Remember when outdoor holiday decorating meant a few lights sprinkled on the bushes, a wreath on the door, and maybe some electric candles in the windows? Those minimalist days are long gone. Today, holiday décor has evolved into a spirited neighborhood, and sometimes town-wide competition, often months in the making!Feeling that festive bug? Challenge your neighbors and friends this year in the Norwood Recreation Department’s 7th Annual Holiday House Decorating Contest! This cheerful competition has become one of Norwood’s most popular community traditions, as residents go all out to flaunt their holiday spirit for everyone to enjoy.
Over the past six years, participants have transformed their homes into dazzling displays of lights, inflatables, and creativity; and this year promises to be even bigger and brighter!
To join the fun, simply register your home with the Norwood Recreation Department by Dec. 14. To register, nominate a neighbor, or learn more, contact the Norwood Recreation Department at 781-762-0466 or email Marie Duffy-Kidd, Program Coordinator, at [email protected].
After that, it’s up to the judges
Judges from the Norwood Senior Center will visit each nominated home and rank the displays. Winners will be announced just before Christmas, and the top decorator will earn bragging rights, and the coveted traveling trophy! Not to fear, other prizes will be awarded as well.
Not the competitive type? No problem—there’s still plenty of joy to go around. Take a festive evening drive or stroll through town and enjoy the sights using the interactive holiday map available on the Norwood Recreation Department’s social media page.
Town employees will confirm nominations before placing homes on the public viewing map. Even if you can’t visit in person, you can still admire the creativity online.
Who’s ready to light up Norwood and claim this year’s festive boasting rights?
