Remembering Jimmy Maroney
James “Jimmy” Maroney, beloved Dispatch Supervisor, passed away in January. Jimmy devoted more than 32 years to serving the Town of Norwood with unwavering dedication, professionalism, and heart. A lifelong member of the community, Jimmy gave back to the town that shaped him, forging lasting relationships and making a meaningful impact on colleagues and residents alike.
Jimmy began his career with the Norwood Police Department as a Dispatcher in 1984. After a brief hiatus, he returned to the department and spent the rest of his career there, eventually rising to Dispatch Supervisor – a role he held for most of his tenure until retiring in 2023. In addition to managing the department’s operations, Jimmy mentored countless new dispatchers and desk officers, sharing his experience, patience, and steady guidance.
Since 1991, Jimmy’s voice was often the first residents heard when calling 9-1-1. Known for his empathy, professionalism, and calm demeanor in emergencies, he earned the trust and respect of the community he served. Many residents specifically requested him by name, a testament to the confidence and care he consistently offered. Beyond his work, Jimmy’s warm humor and camaraderie made him a cherished presence among his colleagues – a spirit that will be deeply missed.
