Giving Tuesday: A Day to Give Back

Oct 26, 2026 11:16AM ● By Michele Taranto

After the shopping rush of Black Friday and Cyber Monday comes a day focused on something a little different: giving back.

Giving Tuesday, celebrated this year on Tuesday, December 1, is a worldwide day of generosity that encourages people to support the organizations and causes that matter most to them. It can mean making a financial donation, volunteering a few hours, donating needed supplies, or simply helping spread the word about a local organization doing good work.

Here in our own community, there are countless opportunities to make a difference. Local food pantries, animal rescue organizations, senior programs, youth groups, community organizations, and other nonprofits that depend on the generosity of donations and volunteers today and throughout the year.

And giving does not have to be big to be meaningful. A bag of groceries donated to a food pantry, pet food dropped off for an animal rescue, a warm coat or pair of mittens, or even an hour of volunteer time can have an impact.

Giving Tuesday is also a good reminder to look close to home when deciding where to help. Supporting local organizations means helping neighbors, families, seniors, animals, and programs right here in the community.

As the holiday season begins, Giving Tuesday offers an opportunity to step away from the shopping lists for a moment and think about what we can give rather than what we can buy.

Sometimes, a little generosity can go a very long way.
