Hi, I hope you are all well. A few updates to get out of the way before I wish you all Happy Holidays. 

Anti Scam Task Force Update – As you know Kerri and I have been working with town employees and community members to provide education and awareness of scams that are occurring in Norwood. The task force changed its name from the Senior Anti Scam Task Force to the Norwood Anti Scam Task Force. We will continue to focus on older adults but we want to share our information with others because residents of all ages have been victims of scams. The task force sent out a town wide mailing that you will receive soon if you haven’t already. We recently were made aware of the following scams which impersonate someone you know or a company you’ve dealt with: 

Email - You may receive an email from someone in your contacts. It asks you to buy them a gift card because they can’t get to the store. Just hit delete. If you feel you have to check into that, call your friend, don’t reply to that email. 

TV, Cable or Internet Provider – You receive a call and the caller ID has your TV, Cable or Internet Provider listed. They offer to lower your bill in exchange for a prepayment or fee. Just hang up, I don’t know of any companies offering to lower your bill. 

BEST Buy Geek Squad – You receive a letter or email stating you will be charged hundreds of dollars to renew your Geek Squad membership. If you want to dispute the charge, they ask you to call a number and while you are talking to them they ask to remotely access your computer. First, don’t call the number. Second, if anyone asks you to remotely access your computer, hang up and turn your computer off for a while. When you go back in, change your passwords. 

Self Help Fuel Assistance – It’s not too late to submit an application. Please call or email me to get the list of documents you need to gather and then we can meet to complete the application.
