Remembering Louise DeFazio

DeFazio, Louise (Luisa) of Walpole, formerly of Newton and the North End of Boston, Feb. 20, age 94. Luisa, as she was fondly referred to, was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Michael DeFazio, her parents, Michele and Italia (Lanzillo) Caggiano, and her siblings Jeanette Bennett, Mary Ferrara, Anthony Caggiano, Rose Caggiano, Carol Storella, and Robert Caggiano. Loving and devoted mother of Christine Glebus and her husband Kevin of Sandwich, Michele Taranto and her husband Billy of Norwood, and Laura and her husband Rick Shechtman of Barnstable. Luisa adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Steven Delaney, and his wife Michelle, and their daughters, Riley, Hailey, and Avery of Bozeman, Montana, Cole Schectman of Barnstable, and Matthew Schectman and his wife Emily, and their 3 sons, Bowen, Graham, and Miller, of Hingham. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who visited her often and never forgot her with cards and flowers throughout the year. Luisa was a traffic supervisor for the City of Newton for many years and later loved working at Filene’s in Chestnut Hill for 25 years in the luxury handbag department. She felt so at home at her condo at Royal Crest Country Club where she developed lifelong friends who were always looking out for her. In her later years, you couldn’t keep Luisa down as she enjoyed time with her many friends, including learning to play golf, (although she never kept score), her weekly lunches, learning cribbage, and was even planning on joining her cornhole friends the week she passed. When you visited Luisa at home, she was typically found reading a book in the sunshine in her favorite rocking chair. Her absolute favorite time was being with her family, especially around the Christmas Eve table, a tradition she held for over 50 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the following organizations in Luisa’s memory: St. Jude, Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org), or Lymphoma Research Foundation (www.lymphoma.org).
