Alphabits! (Virtual)

Alphabits is a fun, engaging way for kids to learn their letters! Each week, will talk about two letters of the alphabet and read stories, sing songs, and more around those letters! Snow Globe Workshop

South Norfolk Mental Illness Family and Friends Support Group

The Grange, 28 Rockwood Road (Route 115), Norfolk

7-9 p.m.

Mental illness is a label for a variety of diseases of the brain. Often it strikes in late adolescence, devastating the afflicted person and the family. The South Norfolk Mental Illness Family and Friends Support Group is composed of such families who find mutual support and join together to advocate for their loved ones. All families in the South Norfolk Area who are dealing with mental illness and their loved ones are welcome. Observing the Covid-19 precaution of wearing a mask while indoors during the meeting is appreciated. For more information, call Ray at  508-668-2941.

Polar Express Party

Gymnasium Fun

6-8:30 p.m.

Holiday Bakeshop

Civic Center

Choose from one or all activities: Santa Cake Decorating (9 a.m.), Elf Cake Decorating (10 a.m.), Tree Cake Decorating (11 a.m.), No Bake Cheesecake (1:30 p.m.). For ages 16 and up. Cost is $25 per session. Register at www.norwoodma.gov/departments/recreation/index.php, or call 781-762-0466.

Meat Raffle 

Norwood V.F.W. Post 2452, at 193 Dean St.

2–5 p.m. (Saturdays thru May)

The price for each drawing is only $2. Ten drawings are conducted each Saturday. 

A pre-buy for $20 is available during the week at the Post. The pre-buy allows for entrance in all 10  drawings conducted on Saturday. The drawings also include 50/50 money raffles. 

The Meat  Raffle will continue every Saturday through  May. The Meat Raffle is open to the public and everyone is welcome. The Norwood VFW is looking for new members. Veterans of the Gulf War, and personnel who have served overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan are welcome to visit the post at any time or come to one of the Monthly Meetings which are held on the Fourth Tuesday of each Month from September through May (Except December).

Dan Shaughnessy on the Larry Bird Celtics (Virtual)

Boston sports journalism Dan Shaughnessy, talks about his latest book documenting one of Boston sports’ all-time greats, Larry Bird. Dan Shaughnessy is a Sports Columnist and Associate Editor for the Boston Globe. Signed copies of Dan’s latest books will be available for sale before and during the event from the library’s bookstore partner, Haley Booksellers. Families can pick up prepared materials throughout the day to create a fun, easy craft! Crafts are geared to preschool aged children but are fun for slightly older kids too! Register for the number of kits you need. Due to high demand, the library will hold materials for registered patrons until the following Monday. Sustainable Decorating for Holidays (Virtual & In-Person)

This workshop by Kristen Nicholson of Blue Stem Natives, will provide advice on responsible foraging techniques, upcycling natural materials, and supporting wildlife this winter. Any winter holiday needs some decoration, and we can reduce our impact on nature while celebrating!

Dec. 11

Breakfast with Santa

9-11 a.m.

The Norwood Recreation Department made a special request visit to the North Pole and Santa will be making an appearance! The morning will include a pancake breakfast, sing-a-long, crafts, and bring cameras for a shot with Santa! Cost is $15 per child ages 16 and below, $5 per adult.

Blessings Boutique Thrift Shop

First Baptist Church, 71 Bond St.

10 a.m.-noon.

This is your last chance to get those items to finish your Christmas shopping!  The shop will have jewelry, decorations, gifts, clothing, books, purses, and much more!  There will also be  some yummy, homemade baked goods.  Treat yourself during this busy time!

Wreaths Across America

The Town of Norwood, through volunteer Andrea Reed, is paying tribute to fallen veterans with Wreaths Across America, a national movement to honor those who are often forgotten. this moving presentation will also include guest speakers and performances. This season, TSgt Troy McCourt (US Airforce) will be inviting the Honor Guard from Hanscom Airforce Base and  Army veteran Shane Matlock (2004-2014) will talk about his new career and transition into a restaurant owner.
